Saxony, on the other hand, has established itself as a European leader in microelectronics, supported by its high-tech network Silicon Saxony. The state is home to advanced chip manufacturing facilities and a thriving ecosystem of visionary hardware development and innovative startups.

A collaboration between Bavaria and Saxony offers a unique opportunity to combine the exceptional research and innovation capabilities of both regions, leveraging their respective strengths. This partnership will create a decisive competitive edge, enabling the development of entirely new, visionary AI hardware and corresponding software solutions. Together, we aim to establish a sustainable and transformative research framework that will drive the future of AI and next-generation computing technologies.

The gAIn project can build on various large-scale projects. These projects — in particular, CeTI and 6G-life — also provide necessary infrastructure, including a fiber optic network and a satellite connection between the state capitals of Munich and Dresden, and deliver the massive amounts of data essential for training AI.

There are already several examples of bilateral cooperation from which the gAIn project will greatly benefit:
