How do you turn four research groups in two States into one project?
By meeting face to face. Following our project meeting in Dresden in January, the whole gAIn team came together again in Munich for two days with a clear focus: connecting the ongoing research across the project and shaping the next steps of gAIn.
The meeting opened on Thursday with presentations from the different research groups. The topics reflected the full breadth of the project – from biological and analog computing to the theory and practice of spiking neural networks, quantized imitation learning for surgical robotics, and AI on edge hardware. Building on the Dresden discussions, the Munich meeting concentrated on strengthening the links between these strands and aligning the project’s scientific and technological directions for the coming phase.
A special thank you goes to the Chair of Theoretical Information Technology at TUM for hosting us and for the excellent organisation, and to the Principal Investigators Frank Fitzek, Stefanie Speidel, Gitta Kutyniok and Holger Boche as well as all participating researchers for two productive days. See you at the next meeting!
