We are delighted to share that our gAIn PI Prof. Dr. Gitta Kutyniok has been elected a Fellow of ELLIS, the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems, within the ELLIS Unit Munich.
ELLIS is Europe’s leading network of excellence in machine learning research. Its Fellows are appointed for outstanding scientific contributions and for their commitment to strengthening the European AI landscape, and they serve as ambassadors for data-driven AI in Europe. The election recognizes Gitta Kutyniok’s foundational work on the mathematics of deep learning, on the limits of AI on digital hardware, and on the path toward reliable and energy-efficient AI – the very questions at the heart of gAIn. She herself described the fellowship as recognition of her work on the mathematical foundations of AI, and as encouragement to keep pushing that research forward.
It adds to a remarkable list of honors, including Fellowships of SIAM and the IEEE, membership in the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the European Academy of Sciences, and invited lectures at the International Congress of Mathematicians.
